The BOOSTCATDRIVE is part of the line
Cat's Series and, like the OVERCATDRIVE
pedals, represents the result of a long experimentation of ADVANCETUBETECH,
finalized to realize a circuit made of high-quality components: polypropylene
and silver-mica capacitors, highly selected semiconductors, without using
operational integrated circuits that, in a booster, crush the dynamics
and get the s/n ratio worse.
The BOOSTCATDRIVE response frequency is very linear. The low output impedance
allows to pilot any kind of port without tones decrease.
Its applications are many:
- combined with tube amps to increase
the "warm sound" and to maintain a high dynamics on clean and
lead sounds.
- as line buffer, with "weak" guitars, to make the signal more
consistent and to pilot the effects and the amplifiers without level problems.
- in the middle of a pedal effects chain to increase the signal only at
a certain step.
- at the end of an effects chain to make the signal more transportable,
according to the low output impedance.
- used as simply preamp to go directly to a power amplifier or mixer,
for example The Missing Link.
- at the end of the chain to have a further level of a preset volume.
- as "saturator" combined with a tube amp.
- etc etc
Thanks to a traditional push switch
with pure contacts, when not inserted,
the Overcatdrive results
absolutely transparent or: TRUEBYPASS.
BOOSTCATDRIVE
structure is completely metallic and the weight is important (575 g),
that means a perfect mechanical stability on the floor.
On the front panel there are: the big piston switch for the BY-PASS,
the 5mm white led and the regulation knob for "boost" level.
The regulation range is from +2dB to +37dB. Practically, rotating the
knob on "zero",
the input signal becomes similar to the output one, with a great improvement
of output impedance that makes it stronger:
no signal loss, typical of weak signals at high impedance, reduction of
induced noises ( buzzes) etc.
The regulation reaches an increase (boost) of +37dB; it makes the sound
stronger and
permit to pilot the amplifier (with a remarkable push) obtaining an excellent
dynamics and sound.
On the back of the Boostcatdrive four anti-slippery rubbers guarantee
a high stability on the floor.
The dicitures indicate the signal route IN/OUT.
There are also some construction notes, the polarity for the connection
of an external power supply, the brand and the serial number.
According to the standard utilized by many producers, the jack
(IN) works as switch for the battery as well. Do not forget the
jack inserted after use to avoid battery discharging.
A 9V battery is placed under the metallic door visible in the
picture aside: the access is allowed removing a screw.
The Boostcatdrive can also be powered through a DC adaptor having
suitable characteristics.
The power supply must be stabilized at 9Vcc giving a current of
at least 150mA. It must be also filtered in order to avoid annoying
noises.
To avoid earth loops, it is advisable not to utilize only one
power supply to serve more devices.
External power connection is realised with a standard 2,1mm coaxial
plug with the negative tip.
