All-tube line mixer

Technical specifications

THE MISSING LINK custom is an all-tube LINE - MIXER expecially conceived for guitar.
It can be the best solution for problems originated combining digital sound processor ( DSP ) with tube devices such as
preamps, power amps and heads.
This device allows the user to connect two processors in a parallel configuration, leaving the original sound unaltered.

Details / connections: Top of this page

THE MISSING LINK has 10 active tube stages, with 5 double triodes: 1 x 12AT7 in the input stage and 4 x 12AU7 in the mixer and ouput stages.
A look at the scheme helps to understand how THE MISSING LINK works: the signal, coming from a preamp, is connected to THE MISSING LINK through the line input. After the +4/-10dB adaptation, it reaches the first tube, which works as an amplifier and as a buffer for the Send B outputs. In this stage the signal is split into two parts, which are controlled by two potentiometers and three switches: DRY for the direct signal and Send A/B for the signal coming from the external processors. The stereo signals, coming from the outputs of the two processor, are then connected to Return A and Return B. DRY, Return A and Return B are finally matched together by the MIXER section, and controlled by the stereo output potentiometer, to be sent to a power amp.

The all - tube configuration allows particular features:

Connections diagram

*the direct signal ( DRY ) has better dynamics and a better tonal content

*the processed signal is " filtered " through different tube stages, which enrich and smoothen the sound, making it similar to the original one. Besides allowing the user to control the volume of direct and processed signals, THE MISSING LINK can control the three sound sources ( DRY, Send A and Send B ) by means of an external controller (CML3 ) or by using three standard footswitches. The channel selection is completely click - free, thanks to the use of optoelectronic switches.

THE MISSING LINK sports five level meters on the front panel, with red and green leds: when the red led lights up (beginning of clipping) a natural tube compression of the signal occurs, without audible distortion, thus warming the sound while increasing the even harmonic components.
These characteristics make any digitally-processed signal entering THE MISSING LINK much more lively.

All the connections are on the back panel.
The mains AC switch is fuse-protected, and it holds a spare fuse (1A 5x20 ).
The line input accepts +4 and -10dB signals, switch selectable. The signal sends are low-impedance,buffered type, to avoid signal or dynamics losses, while the stereo returns with their 500K impedance allow the connection of pedal effects, in addition of usual multieffect units.

The Missing Link is available also as Vintage and Limited Series models.
